Undergraduate

The Department of Film & Digital Media offers undergraduate and graduate study in film, television/video, audio, new media, screenwriting, and media studies. Film and digital media are powerful forces in our minds, lives, societies, and cultures. Courses in the Department of Film and Digital Media are designed to provide students with a broad-based understanding of media communication processes, while serving and encouraging those students with professional aspirations to become ethical, articulate, creative, and innovative leaders in the field of film and digital media.

Pre Film & Digital Media Major

Students interested in Film and Digital Media as a major will choose the Pre-Film and Digital Media designation upon enrollment at Baylor. Application for entry to the Film and Digital Media major must be made to the Department after a student has completed, with grades of “B” or better, FDM 1198, FDM 1199, FDM 1304, and FDM 2360.

Film & Digital Media Major

Courses in the Film & Digital Media Division are designed to prepare students for a variety of careers in radio, television, cable, and allied fields, and for careers in which knowledge of and skills in electronic and film communication are an integral part of professional activity. These would include, for example, business and industry, religion, and education.

  • Thirty-five semester hours including the following:

    • FDM 1198

    • FDM 1199

    • FDM 1304

    • FDM 2360 or 3361

    • FDM 2351 or 2352

    • FDM 3372 or 3373 or 3374

    • FDM 4311 or 4340

  • The remaining eighteen hours for the major must be taken from FDM courses. At least fifteen of the thirty-five semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level.

Communication Specialist Major

The focus of the Communication Specialist major is to prepare students for professional communication positions in business and industry. The program combines courses in Speech and Film & Digital Media to prepare students for the broad range of communication positions in industry.

  • Thirty-six semester hours including the following:

    • CSS 1302

    • FDM 1304

    • FDM 2360 or 3361

    • FDM 3372 or 3373 or 3374

  • Twelve additional hours of any CSS courses.

  • Six additional hours of any FDM electives

  • The remaining six semesters hours may be taken from either division (CSS or FDM). At least fifteen of the thirty-six semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level. Required course in another field: MIS 1305

Film & Digital Media Minor

May include courses in media production, media studies, media management and technology, and screenwriting.

  • Twenty semester hours in specified Film and Digital Media courses:

    • FDM 1304

    • FDM 1198 and 1199

    • FDM 2360 or 3361

    • FDM 3372, 3373, or 3374 

  • The remaining nine of the twenty semester hours must be from FDM courses at the "3000" or "4000" level.

Media Management Minor

Eighteen semester hours in specified Film & Digital Media courses.

  • FDM 1303 and 3320

  •  The remaining courses may be any FDM courses. At least nine of the eighteen semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level.

Film Theory and Criticism Minor
  • Eighteen semester hours in specified Film and Digital Media courses:

    • FDM 1304

    • FDM 2351

    • FDM 2360 

    • FDM 4343 

  • The remaining nine of the twenty semester hours must be from FDM courses:

    • FDM 3321

    • FDM/RUS 3345

    • FDM/FRE 4330

    • FDM 4380

    • FDM 4382

    • FDM 4384

    • FDM 4396

    • FDM 4397

    • GER 3345
