Background
Austin-native Jessica Bean’s love of storytelling quickly directed her career aspirations to theatre and film. In 2015, Jessica won a Director’s Choice for Excellence in Acting from the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association for her performance in Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love and after years of performing in the community, collegiate and competition circuits, Bean attended Baylor University to pursue a Bachelor’s in Theatre Performance. Bean’s capstone project for the Senior Advanced Director program, Anne Washburn’s Antlia Pneumatica, solidified her love of directing and working with an ensemble. In 2020, she graduated with a double major BFA/BA in Theatre Performance and Film & Digital Media shortly followed by Master’s in Film & Digital Media in 2022.
During COVID-19, Bean collaborated with Baylor University Theatre to produce a virtual full-length production of She Kills Monsters as a part of their 2020-2021 mainstage season, acting as cinematographer, camera operator, and editor.
Other pursuits have included operating as Mental Health Peer Leader (2018) and TRANSFERmation Mentor (2017) at Baylor University, serving as an advocate and resource for new Baylor transfers and those struggling with anxiety and eating disorders.
Jessica’s interests include writing, directing, acting and producing for both the screen and stage. When not on set or on stage, Bean is likely reading a sci-fi novel with her two cats, Sage and Moxie.
