Background

Maverick Moore is an award-winning filmmaker that specializes in writing, directing, and editing short films. As a writer and director, his films have collectively won over 60 awards (including jury and audience awards for “Best Picture”) and have been recognized by over 175 film festivals worldwide, including Fantasia Film Festival and several Oscar-qualifying festivals such as the Palm Springs International Shortfest, the HollyShorts Film Festival, and the Austin Film Festival. Most recently, Maverick edited and helped produce ADO, a short film starring Jenifer Lewis that was shortlisted for an Oscar in 2026 after winning 4 Oscar-qualifying film festivals the year before.

In addition to making films, Maverick has also served as a panelist, reviewer, and awards jury member for a variety of national film festivals. Currently, he is also the lead short film programmer for Waco Independent Film Festival, which was listed as one of the “Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” and one of the “25 Coolest Festivals in the World” by MovieMaker Magazine in 2025.

Maverick’s experience as a filmmaker and film programmer also informs his role as a Senior Lecturer in the Film & Digital Media department at Baylor University, where he teaches classes related to filmmaking and film festivals. In addition to teaching, Maverick serves as the department’s Film Festival Specialist, which involves assisting faculty, staff, and students with film festival submissions and strategies.

In 2025, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce awarded Maverick as a “Waco Under 40” honoree, which celebrates dynamic young leaders under the age of 40 who demonstrate excellence in their careers and go above and beyond to serve the community.
